Ben Rahim, My #1 Berlin Reading Spot

In the heart of Berlin’s cozy Hackesche Höfe, there’s a little slice of coffee heaven that goes by the name of Ben Rahim. Tucked away at Sophienstraße 7A, 10178 Berlin, Germany, this café is more than just a place to grab a cup of joe; it’s a cultural experience, blending the best of Berlin’s vibrant coffee scene with a unique Tunisian twist.

A Menu That Speaks Volumes

One of the first things that struck me about Ben Rahim was their exceptional menu selection. It’s not every day you find Turkish style coffee on a menu in Berlin, but here, it’s a star attraction. The flat white and the rest of the drink selection are built on a foundation of solid espresso, a testament to their commitment to quality.

My first drink, a warm cappuccino for a cold day.

Vibes That Resonate

The ambiance at Ben Rahim is something to write home about. I found myself drawn to this cozy nook three times during my morning explorations of Berlin. Each visit was a unique experience – some patrons were engrossed in their books, others engaged in hushed conversations, and a few were deep in study. The seating, though compact with about 15 chairs on benches, never felt cramped. Instead, it fostered a sense of community, a shared love for the coffee and the moment.

My coffee and an excellent Pain au chocolat during my second visit.

Room for More

While Ben Rahim hits many high notes, there’s always room for a little fine-tuning. More comfortable seating would be a welcome addition, offering a bit more relaxation for those longer stays. Also, some signage or pamphlets about the company’s Tunisian roots would be enlightening. I only discovered its Tunisian heritage during a visit with a friend, and it added a whole new layer of appreciation for the café.

As for the WiFi, it’s there, but during my visits, it seemed to be on a coffee break of its own. While this did offer a chance to disconnect and immerse in the surroundings, it’s something to note for those planning to plug in and work or study.

Their hours and a way to find them, which could be hard if you’re not familiar with the streets of Hackesche Höfe.
